For Our Students: |
Australian
education in a nutshell
Australian is well-known all over the
world for its quality standard of education, and is
a favourite study destination for students from all
over the world. Australian education is a well legislated
and well structured system. It has a qualification system
called Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) (which
structures formal qualifications into different levels),
and also a legislation, the ESOS Act, to regulate the
providing of education services to international students.
Australian government assures the quality of education
services to international students by: requiring institutions
in Australia to be registered with the Australian Government
and to meet special registration conditions in order
to deliver courses to international students in Australia;
and requiring them to meet high standards of quality
and ethical practice at all time.

What
to expect in an Australia school/ college/ university?
Studying in Australia may be a totally different experience
from that in your home country. Australian study tends
to focus more on practical learning and encourage your
active participation and independent thinking. Your
teachers/ lectures are there to assist you and guide
you, and not just teach you. You will ussually have
access to modern study and research facility to do your
work. Your education provider will have an international
student support service to help you if you have any
issue with studying and living, and perhaps more. You
may find much more information for this in the "Guide
to Studying and Living in Australia" (the Guide),
particularly pages 43 and 59.
However, it is quite possible that some colleges will
not meet your expectation. There are a few registered
colleges in Australia that are able to get away from
keeping the required mininum standards. There are unscrupulous
colleges that are openned to rip off international students,
undermining the reputation of Australia's education.
It is therefore important that you seek assistance from
a trustworthy and knowledgeable counsellor who knows
which one is good for you. |
